I will use sketchpad to show relationships and how shapes change when they are manipulated. I would let my students use sketchpad and have them make sketches with me, but I don’t think I would use it as a grade that my student’s would have to figure out on their own. The sketchpad program isn’t very kid friendly and younger students may have trouble crafting certain manipulations. I will use sketchpad to show my students different relationships I have planned out ahead of time. I plan to use sketchpad in my future classroom. I could see how angle measures changed as I moved a point or how a reflection changed as I changed an image. It allowed me to interact with different shapes within the sketchpad which helped further my understanding of different concepts. We explored how to create a document within the program and then reflected on how we would incorporate this technology into our classrooms. In the mean time drag the points and create your own designs and figure out which portion represents what fraction of the whole. I don't think it's as good as it could be so I am looking for suggestions. I wasn't originally thinking of that but then made this version that fits those types of images but it's dynamic. So I made a dynamic version where you can change the dimensions of the trapezoid.Īfter I posted the Dynamic Mandala (below) suggested it reminded him of (really go to that site first). In the last couple of months I have seen a couple of videos of this transformation from trapezoid to triangle to prove the formula for the area of a trapezoid ( here and here). They can then generate an infinite number of new angles to measure. When they check their answer they will be marked correct if they are within one degree. They can measure angles less than 90 o, 180 o or 360 o. In this sketch students can practice measuring angles with a protractor. In this sketch they can move the ladder manually or automatically. This sketch dynamically models a classic calculus problem: a ladder where the bottom slides away from the wall.
